What CalcDistrict is
CalcDistrict is a website of free calculators for practical questions: how much concrete to order, what a car loan will cost each month, how many hours were worked this week, or how to add two mixed fractions. It currently offers 30 calculators across 5 categories:
- Construction Calculators: 15 tools. Estimate concrete, gravel, tile, lumber, block and rebar quantities for your project.
- Finance Calculators: 5 tools. Loan and car payments, amortization, retirement withdrawals and trip costs.
- Math Calculators: 4 tools. Triangles, equations, probability and fractions with worked steps.
- Time & Date Calculators: 3 tools. Hours worked, decimal time for timesheets, and elapsed time between dates.
- Health & Fitness Calculators: 3 tools. Race pace, walking calories and maintenance calories using published equations.
We plan to add many more calculators over time, using the same design, testing and documentation standards as the first set.
Who the tools are for
The calculators are designed for people who need a dependable answer quickly: homeowners and DIYers planning a project, contractors double-checking a takeoff, students checking homework, people comparing loans or planning retirement income, workers filling in timesheets, and runners and walkers planning training. No account, download or sign-up is required.
Why we built it
Many calculator sites hide the formula, mix up units, or bury the tool under advertising and long introductions. CalcDistrict puts the calculator at the top of the page, shows how the result was reached, and explains the assumptions that matter, so you can judge whether the answer fits your situation.
How calculators are developed
- Define the question. Each calculator starts from a specific task, the inputs people actually have, and the outputs they need.
- Choose the method. We use exact mathematical relationships where they exist (geometry, amortization, unit conversion) and widely published reference equations where an estimate is unavoidable (for example the Mifflin-St Jeor equation for resting metabolic rate).
- Implement and test. The calculation code is separate from the page design and is covered by automated tests that compare results with independently worked answers, boundary cases and invalid inputs.
- Explain. Each page documents the formula, a worked example, and the limitations of the result.
Our full process is described on the methodology page.
Our commitment to accuracy and usability
We aim for results that are mathematically correct for the inputs given, clearly labelled with units, and rounded sensibly. When a calculator makes an assumption, such as a material density, a bag yield or an activity multiplier, the value is shown and, where practical, editable.
Calculators are built to work well on phones, with large touch targets and the right keyboard for each field, and to meet WCAG 2.2 AA accessibility guidelines where practical.
If you find an error or have a suggestion, please contact us. Corrections are reviewed and, when confirmed, fixed and noted in the calculator's review date.
Important limitations
CalcDistrict provides general-purpose calculators for information and planning. Results are not financial, medical, legal, engineering or other professional advice. Please read our Terms of Use.
